Green Planet PartiesWith the 4th of July fast approaching, we’re in full summer party swing! There are so many ways to help green your BBQ, family reunion, or summer birthday outdoor extravaganza - and it’s easy and more affordable than you think! This week, I’m focusing on parties with kids. After my daughters received a plastic pail filled with plastic toys that have already been broken and thrown away, I was really discouraged. There are so many alternatives out there to make cleaner, greener party planning decisions.

Here’s a great place to begin. Think of Green Planet Parties as your eco-party planner, from table decor to goodie bags. You can outfit your entire shindig right here - from the tablecloth and reusable decorations, to plates and napkins, right to the little extra something sent home with the kids.

I love GPPs “Party in a Bag” - a generous set of plates, napkins, and utensils to make your celebration table chic and eco. Choose from Sugarcane Bagasse plates in white, or a more textured palm leaf plate, which has a great background story. These leaves come from India, where local villagers gather palm leaves that fall to the ground naturally. They are then thermoformed (heated and formed) and finished into a plate shape. No trees are harmed to make either plate, and both sets of plates are fully biodegradable and compostable after use, meaning they’ll return to the earth from which they came.

Each Party in a Bag contains:

25 - 7″ Earthenware Palm Leaf plates or 6″ Sugarcane Bagasse Plates

50 - plush napkins made from 100% recycled and 40% post-consumer materials

25 - 9oz cold cups made from PLA corn

75 - 25 each of spoons, forks, knives PLA corn based cutlery

1 - complimentary oxo-degradable garbage bag for clean-up

1 - complimentary reusable cotton bag for everyday use

Attention green party planners everywhere! Green Planet Parties is generously donating a “Party in a Bag” giveaway set for one party-giver (retail value $36.75 for palm leaf and $32.95 for sugarcane)! The rules are simple - visit Green Planet Parties, and leave a comment here with an answer to this: What item from Green Planet Parties will give your summer celebration the green kick it needs? It can be for the kids, for your table or an upcoming wedding. This giveaway will be open through next Tuesday, July 7th, at midnight PST. The giveaway is open to US residents only, the winner will be chosen at random. Good luck, and happy summer!

My brother is getting married in December, and I think the Baby Tree Seedlings would be such a great favor, especially that it’s a blue spruce, which is fitting for a Christmas wedding. They have so many other great things too.

I love the tablecloths and the cloth runner. I love to throw parties and believe that you have to have an impressive table to wow the guests. Great site. I love the fact that these products are green. I am trying to move toward using green prodcuts and what better place to start then with party supplies! Excellent site.

I am always concerned about putting down silverware or anything on a table. I think that the reusable table cover would be the best thing for me and my family. I have little nephews that want to celebrate their mother’s birthday on July 4th but with the stuff that gets on tables I get a bit worried.

Amanda on 1 July, 2009 at 8:31 pm #

I love the PLA cold cups!!
It would be great to use all the tableware, but the not “plastic” cups made a huge impression on me..just toss them in the compost pile & we’re good!

April Morrison on 5 July, 2009 at 7:39 pm #

I love the Tree in a Box item! There are not enough Blue Spruce, or for that matter, pine trees of all kinds, here in Michigan. It’s a great gift to give at a party and to our own Earth! :) Recently, I had a falling-out with my sisters. Would you believe it was about planting two trees in memory of our parents? It would be nice to “try again” and plant those trees together at a nice family party reunion.

Asha on 5 July, 2009 at 9:33 pm #

Tree in A Box would make a fantastic and very green end to a great party.

Carol on 5 July, 2009 at 10:31 pm #

Tracy on 7 July, 2009 at 10:18 am #

Wow. I’m so excited about green parties. I use all of my own glass and china to keep from using plastic. I just love the palm plates. They are beautiful and add an earthy theme. I look forward to helping more of my friends become aware and more environmentally responsible.

Kimbert on 7 July, 2009 at 8:40 pm #

This is awesome… I am planning my wedding celebration (a camping, outdoors bbq sort of thing) and didn’t even think about this aspect of “greening” the party…I know it’s obvious but I want to use Party in a (Reusable) Bag. I’d love to try it out!
