About teensygreen

I started thinking about alternative toys and activities for kids when my family was relocating out of the country. I had to sort out six years, two children, and three homes’ worth of stuff, and, as anyone who has moved anywhere knows, this is a daunting task. What bothered me the most was the huge amount of toys and junk my five-year-old and three-year-old daughters accumulated over their teensy lives. Sure, I had bought a lot of it, but between birthdays, holidays, and out-of-town visitors bearing gifts, I knew I wasn’t the only guilty party. Fortunately, I was able to donate most of the stuff to charities, or gave it away to schools and friends. But, I couldn’t help feel like there was another way to be able to entertain my kids without all the plastic, the fuzzy, the things they played with for a little while and ended up at the bottom of a basket.

I am definitely NOT a crunchy granola mom who is a hardcore environmentalist (although I admire people who can pull it off). I get sucked into consumption like the rest of us. My family does it’s best to make small changes to lessen our impact on the world. We use energy efficient appliances, energy efficient lightbulbs, and use one car and one scooter (for the most part). We buy local produce; recycle our crayons; make our own bubbles. It’s difficult for families these days to not want to grab every gadget on the market, or feel pummeled by all the green-ness around them. However, with the right information, parents can make better decisions about what kinds of products they bring into their homes for their kids, as well as give to others. Believe me, there is A LOT out there. With teensygreen, I hope to share a wealth of information about toys, books, arts and crafts, as well as natural clothing, bath and body products, and how to really have fun with your kids!
