My daughter can’t get over how cute this baby is, and how fun the onesie is too! San Francisco moms Victoria and Kelley blended their love for the earth with keeping their kids organic to form Little Green Star. By using organic cotton and water-based inks, and with sweet designs such as “Ladies Don’t Litter” (ladybug-style), and my fav, “My Other Ride is a Hybrid,” Little Green Star helps kids show off their eco-friendliness in a gentle, approachable way. Plus, they come in sizes 3-6 months through 6T, so you can keep your kids in these tees for years!
For an even sweeter deal, the moms behind Little Green Star are offering a 10% off discount for teensy readers! Just plug in the promotion code teensygreen when you check out. Wishes do come true!
As summer winds down, so do ideas to keep kids busy. Tie dyeing, however, never goes out of style. I just bought this Tie Dye Kit from the San Francisco MoMA store for my niece and nephew, and I think they’ve already torn through it. The kit uses squirt bottles, so you can tie dye the old “soak everything in a bucket with 100 rubberbands” way, or try a new method. And, it can dye up to 15 shirts! Get your American Apparel, sweatshop-free, organic cotton long sleeve shirts to perk up your kid’s fall wardrobe! Or socks, headbands, anything white and cottony! Groovy!

I think Simple Shoes came on the scene when I was a hippy-chick in high school who wore wool clogs with socks in the winter and Birks in the summer (ok, I still wear the Birks, but they’re much prettier these days…) They were funky back then, and they’ve now taken it up a notch with their “ecoSneaks,” a line of sneakers and bags that are totally eco-friendly. The shoe you see here has outsoles made of recycled tires, water-based glues, and 100% post-consumer paper pulp foot forms. But my favorite part are the super-retro rainbow laces, and the fact that they’re called “Skippies”. Check out the site for the many other kids shoes (and shoes for parents, too!) Don’t you love when you can be as fast-forward as your kids?
Thanks to Whitney for the tip!
What do wild animals and the alphabet have in common? Aside from there being one of every letter in nature (yes, even ‘X!’), they are two topics kids take great pride in learning. The makers of bioME 5 organic cotton t-shirts realize this. Their ‘alphabet project’ shirts are 26 of the most vibrant, straight-out-of-the zoo-images that scream, ‘Read me! Be me!’ (Look at the animal’s name on the shirt, and how the little boy is checking it out-clever!) The name comes from the five natural biomes of the earth: tundra, grasslands, desert, water, and forests. (Seventh grade Earth science, anyone?) Seriously, the architectural designers behind bioME found an amazing way to give kids what they want - a sort of showing off, through nature and with it as well. My kids have already picked out their favorites (fish and shark)…and turn the sound up when you click through (if you’re not at work, of course!)
