I’ve had this debate with myself for a while, to discuss the many versatile and gorgeous wall stickers/art/decorations for pretty much every room in your home. We had the Wall Candy Dottilicious stickers for a while, and my kids adored them. Here’s the rub - they’re made from vinyl, or PVC, which may look great on your walls, but is unsafe for your kids. Lo and behold - Mod Green Pod! Sisters-in-laws Lisa and Nancy Mims took a stand for fashionable yet sustainable design, and Mod Green Pod sets the bar high. Using non-toxic, water-based inks and glaze for their hand silkscreened wallpaper makes Mod Green Pod an innovator in wall dressing. The Butterfly Jubilee print in Raspberry/Honey got the ever popular “I want THAT in my room!” five-year old thumbs up; I think Mom might have other plans for it, however…
While you’re on Mod Green Pod, check out their selection of hand silkscreened, 100% organic fabrics as well. These seriously stylish prints are processed sans chemicals or finishing agents, giving the fabrics a truly natural quality that will enhance any form they’re transformed into. Have you used Mod Green Pod fabrics? Send me pictures and I’ll put them up to share with readers!
Since Mod Green hand prints their product, both wallpaper and fabric comes in limited quantities. Find a location near you for ordering or custom work.
All of a sudden I have so many friends having spring babies! I thought this week was perfect for a newborn/infant giveaway. I wrote about Blessed Nest pregnancy and nursing pillows a while back, and I got a great response about them. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they’re organic, some completely organic inside and out, or that they come in a gorgeous variety of colors and styles. Or maybe it’s just thinking about cute little babies resting on pillows…I know when and if baby #3 comes around, I’ll definitely be getting my own Blessed Nest!
This week’s giveaway is for all the new nesting moms out there, or for someone you know who is about to have some long nights either getting ready for baby, or getting used to a new little one in the house. The winner can choose from three styles - the Kaleidoscope, Morning Glory (shown above), or Aqua Nest. All are beautiful, and at $84 and made-to-order, will make a very special gift, even if it’s for yourself! Rules remain the same - please leave a comment here with an answer to the following question by Thursday at midnight, PST. What’s the name of your favorite Nesting pillow (besides the ones up for grabs)? There are 12, so you have a choice! Good luck!
This contest is now closed! Congrats to our winner, Carrie Z! Thanks for entering, and check back on Monday for another great green giveaway!
As many of my wonderfully loyal readers have noticed, I’ve taken a bit of a rest lately. Thanks for checking back in from time to time. I hope to bring you some exciting stuff soon, great giveaways and more eco-friendly posts to get your mind turning and your shopping turned to overdrive! That being said, and on the theme of ‘resting,’ here we go…
I’m a linens fanatic, both for myself and my kids. I love love love modern designs like Dwell, and have found tons amazing bold prints all over the place. When I got my weekly email from Hazel Wood Children about their crib quilts, duvets, and pillow covers from Serendipity, however, I knew it was time to post. These 100% SKAL (European Organic Certification) Certified organic cotton linens with low-impact dyes have a classic style that makes you want to get into the crib with your kids! There are three styles to choose from, and they’re only available through Hazel Wood Children for a limited time. Talk about pressure. If you’re having an Autumn baby, and love that clean, modern/traditional look, I say go for it! Browser beware - Hazel Wood is an amazing shop, with many one-of-a-kind organic finds. At least you can ‘window shop’ with no pressure!
I love Mrs. Meyers ”Clean Day” products, not only because Mrs. Meyers sort of looks like my Grandma when she was younger, or the bottles are no fuss/easy to open and look like they were designed at “Leave it to Beaver’s” house. It’s always what’s inside that counts, no? What really brings me back to Mrs. Meyers are the tried and true cleaning power of her laundry, baby, and cleaning products that are made with natural essential oils, are biodegradable, and phosphate-free.
And the scents - Geranium, Lavender, and Lemon Verbena - will take you back to Grandma’s house, with sheets drying in the open air, running through their softness…ok, now I’m getting carried away. Try something simple first, like their Baby Blossom Freshening Spray. Use for the diaper pail, or just in the room. Your nose will thank you.
Mrs. Meyers is offering free shipping on orders over $50, now through Friday only! Stock up for fall and refresh your house for the new season now!
Your kids may not eat their veggies, but they’ll be all over Celery Furniture. And no wonder. Their Lullaboo Rocking Pony requires minimal assembly and has NO metal hardware. Made from bamboo (celery/bamboo = large stalks that grow fast, get it?) and/or formaldehyde-free medium density fiberboard, and with low or no-VOC paint, this is a fun and funky addition to your playroom. It also comes in six colors, so you can find the exact match for your little celery stalk. Taking turns will be tough, believe me. And for moms and dads, check out their super-gigantic sized rocker!

The family behind Argington modern children’s furniture want to take you on a world tour, without leaving your well-designed home. The beds, cribs, seating, and storage of their “Wonders Collection” are named for different Wonders of the Ancient and Modern World - from Giza to the Sahara, Paris to Ayres Rock, each piece is made almost entirely of wood from managed renewable forests, with non-toxic finishes. The Fundy Play Table, shown here, evokes the playfulness of the whales and tides of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. My kids are all over this table - literally. The chalkboard (or dry erase, can be customized) top and steel casters makes the table itself something to play with, even when its drawers and hidden pockets are stuffed with supplies. Because, who doesn’t want to write all over a table and not get in trouble?

I’ve explained that one of the springboards to creating this site was the new book The Lazy Environmentalist, by Josh Dorfman. Based on “The Lazy Environmentalist” radio show on Sirius radio, the book’s tagline is “Your Guide to Easy, Stylish, Green Living.” And he’s not kidding. Every week I’ll highlight a find from the book - there is just so much to read about, in every aspect of living. Of course, it goes way beyond kids - the book discusses travel options, pets sustainable housing, gardening…the kitchen and bathroom even get their own chapters!

This week I thought I’d show you the bedding collection from Cotton Monkey. Cotton Monkey was created by a Dallas mom with a background in architecture and design, and a strong interest in sustainability. The products are made with 100% organic cotton, and colored with either non-toxic, water-based dyes or peroxide (for the “Bright White” collection). My personal favorite (from the picture) is the “Eyes of the World” collection. Perfect for either a girl or boy, the modern design and vibrant hues would be a great focal point in any nursery. Check out Cotton Monkey’s “monkey gear” as well - towels and gift sets that compliment any new monkey’s room…
